I Hate Ben Affleck, So Why Do I Love Him in Gone Girl?

It's true. I know, completely unheard of (as if), but despite popular belief. I am not a fan of Ben Affleck. In fact, I would go as far as to say that I very strongly dislike him. Detest even. Yet Gone Girl, the film directed by David Fincher, is one of my favorite movies of all time. And guess who stars in it? None other than good ole Ben.

And I mean it when I say I love him in this film. The question I always ask myself though is, why?

He is everything I hate in it; condescending, rude, arrogant, selfish, narcissistic, a liar, and of course a cheater (the last two typically go hand in hand).

All the things you don't want in a significant other. Yet, I find myself so drawn to him in this movie. Maybe it's because I feel like it's his best acting yet and after many months of reflection on this (more time than I would like to admit, I mean seriously why do I think about it this much?) I have come to the conclusion that it is because I don't really feel like he is acting. I feel like the character being played is what the real Ben is like.

Now, I know this may come as a shock to most people. But, I do not personally know Ben Affleck in any way. I know, it's crazy.

Do I feel like I do? Yes, of course. Hence why I have such strong opinions of him and am making a blog post about it. But alas, I do not. However, his life and actions being in the public eye make it feel like I can have some slight ... allowing me to pass some, let's call them judgments.

After his affair with the lovely Jennifer Garner (13 Going on 30, come on, it's a classic), and how he presents himself in the media doesn't paint him in a good light. In fact, those things made him and his character Nick seem so similar.

And at the end of the day, that is why I like Ben in Gone Girl.

Because for once I feel like he isn't forcing himself into a character he isn't. He is finally owning up to being the douchebag he can be (again I cannot emphasize enough how I do not know him personally, like at all, so this is just my opinion). He found a role where he really becomes one with the part and so for that, I do love him in the film.

Overall though, he is just an overhyped Hollywood star who craves attention (not that I don't) and thinks he is better than everyone else (even though to me he's not, all just my opinion.) So Ben, my best advice to you, own the asshole vibe, apparently it works for you.
